The Backstory and the Multiverse of Marvel
The first season of “Loki” ended with a bang, opening up the Marvel Multiverse and giving fans a whole new arena of speculation. Of course, Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, will have to grapple with this broader universe and the menacing Kang the Conqueror. The extent to which this will play out in the second season, or whether Loki will make appearances in other Marvel Universe adventures beforehand, remains uncertain.
When is “Loki” Season 2 Premiering on Disney+?
The official release date for “Loki” Season 2 remains unconfirmed by Marvel. However, they’ve revealed that the series will premiere on October 6, 2023. This release aligns with Phase 5 of the Marvel timeline, which begins with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and extends to the summer of 2024 with “Thunderbolts”, to follow “Captain America 4” immediately.
Notably, “Loki” will not face competition from other superhero movies, as Sony decided to postpone “Kraven the Hunter” until 2024.
The Cast and Characters
We couldn’t imagine a “Loki” Season 2 without Hiddleston, who has been embodying the character since 2011. Thankfully, he isn’t going anywhere soon. Furthermore, the following characters are confirmed for the second season: Ravonna (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Mobius (Owen Wilson), Casey (Eugene Cordero), Miss Minutes (Tara Strong), Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), Hunter D-10 (Neil Ellice), and the formidable Kang (Jonathan Majors). Interestingly, we might encounter multiple variants of the powerful villain, Kang, as hinted in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”.
New additions to the cast include Rafael Casal (“Blindspotting”) and Ke Huy Quan (“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”). Kate Dickie, recognized as Lysa Arryn in “Game of Thrones”, will play the main villain, Liz Carr, in this upcoming season.
The Creative Team
Expectations are high for the creative team of the first season to return, specifically with Michael Waldron leading the scriptwriting team and Kate Herron in charge of directing. Other contributors include the duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (“Moon Knight”), Dan Deleeuw, and Kasra Farahani.
The Filming Process
Like many series and movies, “Loki” was filmed under an alternate title to keep the project under wraps for as long as possible. The first season was shot under the title ‘Architect’, and Production Weekly disclosed a few months ago that the second season would start filming in January 2022. However, the filming began in June 2022 in London and ended in October of the same year, with the team commemorating the conclusion on social media.
