Long gone are the days of emerald cities and yellow brick roads in the upcoming horror movie “Gale – Stay Away From Oz.” In this dark retelling of the classic tale, Dorothy Gale is now an elderly woman who has been traumatized by her past experiences in the mystical world of Oz. Her only living relative, Emily, is now being called back to Oz to settle some unfinished business in this terrifying land.
The movie is being made by independent company Daniel Alexander Films, with writer and director Daniel Alexander at the helm. It is being produced alongside Tenisha White Films, with White set to play the role of Gayelette. While no release date has been announced yet, a trailer was released on YouTube on October 25th, 2022.
This film should not be confused with the “Wizard of Oz horror film project” being produced by New Line Cinema, or the unreleased film “Oz.” This version of the story seems to suggest that Dorothy Gale only visited Oz once, but that visit had a lasting impact on her. In her old age, it appears that there is something demonic about the location, and she becomes possessed by an evil energy possibly related to the Wicked Witch Gayelette. Before repeating the phrase “stay away from us” multiple times, Dorothy’s eyes go completely black and she screams in a monstrous voice “Stay away from Oz!”
The film stars Karen Swan as Dorothy Gale, Chloë Crump as Emily Gale, Tenisha White as Gayelette, Stacey Devonport as the nurse, and Denny Hodge in a yet-to-be-announced role.
