Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is an upcoming fantasy adventure film that is based on the popular tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. It is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, and features a star-studded cast including Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant. The film is set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, which is a fictional world that is commonly used as a setting for the Dungeons & Dragons game.
The film has had a long and complicated production history, with Warner Bros. Pictures originally acquiring the rights to make the film in 2013. However, the rights were later transferred to Paramount Pictures, and the film went through various phases of development with different writers and directors attached at different times. Goldstein and Daley were the final writers and directors to work on the film, and they used elements from an earlier version of the script that had been written by Chris McKay and Michael Gilio. McKay and Gilio were eventually credited with a story credit on the film.
The premise of the film centers around a group of unlikely adventurers who are led by a charming thief on an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic. However, things take a dangerous turn when they run afoul of the wrong people. The film is expected to bring the rich world and playful spirit of the Dungeons & Dragons game to the big screen in a thrilling and action-packed adventure. Filming for the film began in April 2021 in Iceland, before moving to Northern Ireland.
